Minutes of the Recreation and Amenities Committee Meeting
held on 5th September 2019 at 8.30 pm – Haling Dene Centre

1368. APOLOGIES
Apologies were received from Cllrs Bevan Craddock, Mrs Isabel Ford, David Oldfield and Alan Smallwood.
1369. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST
There were no Declarations of Interest.
1370. MINUTES
Resolved
That the minutes of the meeting of 23rd May 2019 be approved as a true and correct record and be signed by the Chairman.
1371. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
Councillors asked that the Welcome to Penkridge sign be removed if it could not be refurbished/replaced.
1372. INCOME AND EXPENDITURE
[a] The Recreation and Amenities printouts for the year to date were received.
[b] The Burial Ground printouts for the year to date were received.

1373. TRADITIONAL VICTORIAN FAYRE
The PA’s report on above for December 2019 was received.
1374. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 2019
[a] An amended quotation was received and considered from Penkridge TV and Electrical to install and remove the lighting, at a cost of £3,200 for the festive period 2019.
Councillors advised that South Staffordshire Council gave other Parish Councils considerable grants towards their Christmas lights the previous year and asked that the PA enquire the process to obtain a grant.

1374. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 2019 [Cont’d]
[b] If the Committee approve the above to consider where the additional funding is to be taken from – see [a] above.
[c] An invoice was received from Turnocks for the repair and storage of the Christmas lighting at a cost of £436 plus VAT.
1375. SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE COUNCIL ROAD SWEEPING
An email was received dated 27th August from a Parishioner with regard to the road sweeping in the village.
Resolved that a letter be sent to South Staffordshire Council asking that they remove Wolgarston Way from the road sweeping schedule, now the road has been resurfaced, and include other roads that require road sweeping in the Parish.
Burial Ground
1376. POND FENCING
A quotation was received and considered from the General Handyman to replace the fencing around the pond, re-paint, replace the gravel around the lower pond area and clear out the over grown plants in the pond at a cost of £420.
Resolved that the above quotation be approved.
1377. DAMAGED TREE
[a] Consideration was given to replacing a tree that had been damaged and now removed from along the pathway in the Burial Ground.
Resolved that the tree be replaced and the PA to speak to the Forest of Mercia with regard to the replacement tree.
[b] Consideration was given to a request from a Parishioner to make a donation of £25 towards the cost of the replacement tree, if the Committee approved the above.
Resolved that the Parishioner’s offer be accepted.
